How do contacts work for monovision?

For patients that are used to wearing contact lenses, we give them special contact lenses to simulate monovision. With these lenses, the dominant eye is corrected fully for distance and the nondominant eye is partially corrected, which enables reading vision. When both eyes are open, the patient is able to see both distance and near and can read a menu again!
