iLASIK with IntraLase

The Intralase treatment is done during the second step of the iLASIK procedure. Intralase creates an ideal LASIK flap using the blade-free, all laser technology. Then the Advance CustomVue treatment is done. This laser vision correction procedure provides a broad range of treatments for patients who are nearsighted or farsighted, as well as patients with astigmatism.

Overall, the iLASIK procedure is done by gently reshaping the cornea to correct the refractive imperfections in the eye by using the IntraLase and Advance CustomVue technologies for precise clear vision.

Can you explain how iLASIK is done?

The first step in the iLASIK procedure is to have the patient undergo a WaveScanTM. This scan charts and diagrams the patient’s eye. This specialized technology is able to identify the unique imperfections in each patient’s eye. The WaveScan is 25 times more precise than previous measurements.

According to Dr. Sandy T. Feldman, the scan gives physicians like her precise information about her patient’s vision measurements.

Can LASIK correct lazy eye?

During the LASIK procedure, a laser contours the cornea, or front surface of the eye, like a contact lens or glasses would. For patients that have a problem in the eye that limits their vision, like "lazy eye", LASIK and laser vision correction will not be able to correct the issue.

What is bladeless LASIK?

During the LASIK procedure a corneal flap is created on the cornea or front surface of the eye so that the laser can reshape the secondary layer of the cornea.

In the past, a semi-automated mechanical instrument, the microkeratome, was used to create the flap. This type of procedure involved an oscillating blade. Now, with the advancement in technology, the whole procedure is bladeless and is performed using a laser known as the Intralase. This laser creates tiny gas bubbles which are used to separate the tissue and create a flap.
