All Laser LASIK for San Diego

We hear a lot of questions at ClearView Eye and Laser Medical Center about all-laser LASIK. Many patients ask what all-laser LASIK is and how it is done. All laser LASIK combines two lasers, the IntraLase laser and an Excimer laser, for a personalized and precise vision correction procedure.

After the patient has been properly prepped for surgery, the LASIK procedure begins with Dr. Sandy T. Feldman creating the corneal flap. With all-laser LASIK, the IntraLase laser is used instead of the semi-automated microkeratome with an oscillating blade, which is used in traditional LASIK procedures. The IntraLase laser produces a series of bubbles at a pre-determined, microscopic depth on the surface of the cornea. Dr. Feldman then gently separates the corneal tissue to create the corneal flap, which is folded back to expose the procedure area.

The procedure continues when the excimer laser is used to gently and precisely reshape the cornea for optimal vision. Once the laser treatment is completed, the corneal flap is folded back into place, where it acts as a natural bandage as the eye heals.
