Implantable Contact Lenses offer Vision Correction Solutions for Nearsightedness in Rancho Santa Fe

At Clearview Eye and Laser Medical Center, we offer the STAAR Visian and Verisyse Implantable Contact Lenses for our patients who are myopic (nearsighted).

The Implantable Contact Lens procedure is done as an outpatient surgery. The procedure is relatively quick and takes about 15 to 20 minutes. The STAAR Visian lens is surgically implanted behind the iris and in front of the natural lens. The Verisyse lens has the shape of a traditional contact lens, but is placed between the cornea and iris.

Implantable Contact Lenses - An Alternative Vision Correction Procedure

Laser vision correction procedures like LASIK and PRK are great options for patients that are tired of or frustrated with wearing glasses or contact lenses. However not all our patients At ClearView Eye and Laser Surgery Medical Center are good candidates for these types of procedures. Now, alternative vision correction procedures, like the implantable contact lens, are available.

An implantable contact lens resembles a traditional contact lens, but it is implanted in the eye during a quick surgical procedure. Depending on the type of lens, it can either be placed behind the iris or between the cornea and the iris. The lens works by correcting the way light is reflected onto the retina and can dramatically improve vision often to 20/20.

All Laser LASIK for San Diego

We hear a lot of questions at ClearView Eye and Laser Medical Center about all-laser LASIK. Many patients ask what all-laser LASIK is and how it is done. All laser LASIK combines two lasers, the IntraLase laser and an Excimer laser, for a personalized and precise vision correction procedure.

After the patient has been properly prepped for surgery, the LASIK procedure begins with Dr. Sandy T. Feldman creating the corneal flap. With all-laser LASIK, the IntraLase laser is used instead of the semi-automated microkeratome with an oscillating blade, which is used in traditional LASIK procedures. The IntraLase laser produces a series of bubbles at a pre-determined, microscopic depth on the surface of the cornea. Dr. Feldman then gently separates the corneal tissue to create the corneal flap, which is folded back to expose the procedure area.

The procedure continues when the excimer laser is used to gently and precisely reshape the cornea for optimal vision. Once the laser treatment is completed, the corneal flap is folded back into place, where it acts as a natural bandage as the eye heals.
