What is nearsightedness?

Nearsightedness, also known as myopia, is a common visual conditional where patients can see things clearly up close, but objects are blurry at a distance. When you are nearsighted your cornea is steeper than normal causing light rays to bend too much and focus in front of the retina instead on the retina.

During a San Diego LASIK procedure, Dr. Sandy T. Feldman uses the Visx laser to remove a small amount of tissue near the center of the cornea to slightly flatten the area allowing light rays to focus on the retina for good vision.
