Clearview Eye and Laser Medical Center now Offers the Latest in Lash Enhancement - Latisse™
San Diego and Southern California
(April 22, 2009 - San Diego, Calif.) -- For thousands of years women have been using makeup to enhance the look of their eyes and lashes. But what if there was a way to encourage your lashes to grow longer and thicker, without makeup? Now there is and this innovative new lash enhancer, Latisse™, has come to San Diego's ClearView Eye and Laser Medical Center.
"For us, Latisse™ was a natural option for our patients. After having LASIK, many of our patients were looking for a way to emphasis their new look and new vision. What better way to draw attention to your eyes than with longer, thicker and darker lashes," said Dr. Sandy T. Feldman, ClearView Clinical Director, renowned corneal expert and refractive surgeon.
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved Latisse™ for eyelash hypotrichosis, which means having inadequate or sparse lashes. Originally, Latisse™ was developed from a glaucoma drug called Lumigan. When glaucoma patients were prescribed Lumigan, they noted a surprising and beneficial, side effect. The ophthalmic solution increased the length of their lashes. This is much like BOTOX®, which was first approved by the FDA as a medical treatment for eye disorders and was later found to have an aesthetic benefit for wrinkles.® Allergan, the makers of Lumigan and BOTOX®, saw a way to meet a need in the medical aesthetic marketplace and further developed Latisse™ for the general public.
The Latisse™ drops are applied to the base of the eyelashes with a special applicator once a day. Dr. Feldman recommends these treatments be done at night after the patient's makeup has been removed and their face is clean. In about four to sixteen weeks, the patient's lashes should begin to be longer, darker and thicker.
Latisse™ is available only through a doctor. Patients are required to have a thorough eye examination before beginning to use Latisse™. In order to maintain the effects of the lash enhancer the drops must be used continually. If the use of Latisse™ is discontinued, eyelashes will gradually return to where they were prior to treatment over a period of weeks to months depending on the average eyelash hair cycle.
