Is LASIK painful?

Most patients describe only some discomfort or a slight pressure on the eye. An anesthetic eye drop will be used before the procedure begins along with a mild sedative. After the procedure, some patients experience a mild scratchy sensation and watery eyes, but no serious discomfort. Since the patient’s comfort is paramount to Dr. Feldman, medicines are prescribed to ensure a pleasant recovery.

What are the benefits?

The biggest benefit is an improved quality of life. With the advanced wavefront-guided LASIK procedure used by Dr. Feldman, 98% of patients achieve 20/20 vision or better, and 74% achieve better than 20/20 vision. That means you will have little or no reliance on glasses or contacts after the procedure is over.  Additionally, the majority of patients report seeing better at night than they did with their glasses or contact lenses.

What are the risks of LASIK?

Dr. Feldman’s extensive experience and commitment to the latest LASIK technology mean than the risks to her patients are extremely small. The most common complications and side effects, which are all treatable, are under- or over-correction, light sensitivity and dryness. Dr. Feldman and her professional staff will spend as much one-on-one with you as necessary to discuss the possible risks with you so you can make an informed decision.

Why should I choose Dr. Feldman for LASIK?

Dr. Feldman is a world-class corneal expert who has performed tens of thousands of laser eye surgery since FDA approval in 1995. . Because of her experience and reputation, hundreds of doctors and medical professionals have trusted Dr. Feldman with their LASIK surgery.  If so many doctors trust Dr. Feldman, shouldn’t you?

What is an excimer laser?

Excimer lasers are cool, ultraviolet beams. Because they’re cool, they don’t pour any heat into the nearby surfaces or air. Because they’re ultraviolet, we can’t see them; ultraviolet means higher than the violet vibration, and it’s outside our visual range.

How precise is the laser?

An excimer laser penetrates a microscopic depth into the corneal tissue, less than a nanometer. Their contact with the surface corneal tissue evaporates it, and this is how Dr. Feldman is able to re-sculpt the cornea.

Being a directional light, the laser can focus on a point as tiny as 0.25 microns (0.00004 of an inch). A human hair is 50 microns wide! Would you agree that this is a precise beam?
