Verisyse Implantable Contact Lenses

Overview

Verisyse Implantable Contact Lenses are designed to treat moderate to severe nearsightedness (myopia). These lenses, implanted between the cornea and iris, act as an additional focusing lens, providing high-quality vision for patients.

Learn more about how the eye works.

What is the Verisyse™ Phakic IOL?

The Verisyse™ lens is a specialized artificial lens implanted inside the eye between the cornea and the iris (the anterior chamber). Unlike traditional contact lenses that sit on the surface of your eye, the Verisyse lens works internally in harmony with your natural lens to precisely focus light onto the retina. Because your natural lens is preserved, the eye maintains its natural focusing ability.

Benefits and Advantages of Verisyse Lenses

Solution for High Myopia: Effectively treats severe nearsightedness beyond the range of standard laser vision correction.

Preserves Corneal Structure: Ideal for patients with thin or irregular corneas who cannot undergo corneal reshaping procedures like LASIK or PRK.

Proven Visual Outcomes: In FDA clinical trials, 95% of patients achieved 20/40 vision or better following the procedure.

Reversible Procedure: Although designed as a permanent vision correction solution, the lens can be surgically removed or replaced if your prescription changes over time.

High Satisfaction: Reduces or eliminates reliance on thick glasses or daily contact lenses.

Understanding Verisyse Risks and Safety Factors

Benefits:
  • Suitable for patients not eligible for LASIK due to high prescription or other medical reasons.
  • 95% of patients in an FDA study achieved 20/40 vision or better.
  • Reduces dependency on glasses or contacts.
  • The procedure is reversible.
Risks:
  • Inflammation and infection.
  • Inadequate lens power.
  • Loss of epithelial cells.
  • Increased risk of retinal detachment and cataracts.
  • Haloes, eye pressure, and night driving difficulties.

Verisyse vs. LASIK: Key Differences

While LASIK permanently reshapes the outer surface of your cornea using an excimer laser, Verisyse adds an internal lens without removing any corneal tissue. This makes Verisyse the preferred option for individuals with severe refractive errors or thin corneas who want high-definition visual clarity.
