RxSight®Light Adjustable Lens (LAL) in San Diego

• Cataract/Lens surgery (Day 0). Your clouded natural lens is removed and replaced with the Light Adjustable Lens.
• Healing (Weeks 1–3). As your eye stabilizes, we measure your vision and talk about your goals (distance, computer, reading, or a blended plan).
• Light adjustments (Weeks 3–5). In a comfortable clinic visit, a special UV light is used to subtly reshape the implanted lens and shift your prescription. Each light treatment takes about 90 seconds per eye. Most people need 1–3 adjustments.
• Lock‑in (Following adjustments). Two final light treatments “lock” the lens so it will no longer change.

What you’ll notice: between visits you can assess your vision in the real world, driving, screens, hobbies, and tell us what to fine‑tune next.

A common question patients ask is whether the RxSight lens is monofocal or multifocal.

The Standard LAL acts as a premium monofocal lens, delivering pristine, high-definition vision at a single distance.

The New LAL+® features an advanced Extended Depth of Focus (EDOF) design. This provides a continuous, blended range of high-quality vision from distance to arm's length (like reading a computer screen or car dashboard).

Because the lens is adjusted using UV light, you must protect your eyes from natural UV rays during the healing phase. You must wear UV‑protective glasses during waking hours until your final lock‑in appointment.

What do the glasses look like? RxSight provides two pairs of premium, wrap-around glasses. One pair acts as dark sunglasses for outdoor use, and the other is a clear pair of safety glasses for indoor use. (See images below for photo reference)

Because the LAL is a highly customized, premium intraocular lens, there is an out-of-pocket cost associated with the technology that is not covered by Medicare or standard health insurance. During your consultation, we will provide a fully transparent breakdown of the Light Adjustable Lens cost and discuss flexible financing plans to make this revolutionary technology affordable.

• Are having cataract surgery (or refractive lens exchange) and

• Don’t have pre‑existing macular disease and
• Can wear UV‑protective glasses during waking hours until lock‑in and keep all follow‑up visits

All eye surgery carries risks such as infection, inflammation, changes in vision, or need for additional procedures. With LAL you must:

• Wear UV‑protective glasses during waking hours until final lock‑in
• Attend all adjustment and lock‑in appointments

Some eye conditions and medications are not compatible with LAL. We’ll discuss your specific risks and alternatives at your consultation.
