New Red Light Therapy at Clearview

There's a reason light therapy has moved from professional locker rooms into wellness studios and medical offices across the country. Done right, it's a simple, non-invasive way to help tense muscles relax, ease everyday aches, and support the body's natural recovery. At Clearview, we've taken it a step further, bringing in a high-powered system precise enough to meet the standards of a laser surgery practice, and versatile enough to help you unwind before your own procedure. Here's what red light therapy is, how our new CiraPro system works, and what a session at our San Diego office feels like.

Light Has Always Been Our Specialty. Now It Can Help You Relax, Too.

For more than two decades, our team has used lasers to do something remarkable: reshape how people see the world. So when we discovered a light-based technology that professional athletes rely on for recovery, we paid attention. And when we saw what it could do for our own patients, we brought it in-house.

Clearview Eye and Laser Medical Center is proud to introduce the CiraPro high-powered light therapy system, now available at our San Diego office.

What Is Red Light Therapy?

Red light therapy is the everyday name for photobiomodulation, or PBM, which is the use of specific wavelengths of light to stimulate the body's natural cellular processes. It is one of the most researched technologies in the wellness space, with hundreds of published clinical studies exploring its effects on cellular energy production, local circulation, and inflammation.

Here is the short version of how it works. Light at the right wavelength is absorbed by the mitochondria, the tiny power plants inside your cells. Researchers have found that this absorption can support the cell's natural energy production, which is why PBM has drawn so much interest from athletes, trainers, and wellness practitioners around the world.

What Makes CiraPro Different From a Red Light Bed?

You may have seen full-body red light beds at spas or gyms. Those devices bathe the skin in low-powered light, which can be pleasant, but the energy stays near the surface.

CiraPro takes a different approach. It uses a high-powered laser, precisely calibrated to carry light energy deeper into muscle and soft tissue, and delivers it through a three-phase protocol: a gentle priming phase, a high-intensity pulse phase, and a consolidating finish. Think of the difference between warming your hands over a candle and sitting by a fireplace. Same principle, very different depth.

As a practice built on laser surgery, we felt right at home. Laser safety, precise calibration, and protective eyewear are second nature to us. Light is our native language.

What Is CiraPro Used For?

The CiraPro system is designed for:
  • Temporary relief of minor muscle and joint pain and stiffness
  • Muscle relaxation
  • A temporary increase in local blood circulation
  • Topical warming that simply feels good after a long day

Sessions are performed in our office by trained staff, take a matter of minutes, and involve no needles, no medication, and no downtime. You wear protective eyewear, settle in, and let the light do its work.

Why Are Professional Athletes Using It?

Recovery is an athlete's job. Between training sessions and competition, professional athletes look for safe, non-invasive ways to ease sore muscles, stay loose, and keep circulation moving. We have already been using the CiraPro system with professional athletes at Clearview, and their demanding standards are part of why we trust this technology enough to offer it to every patient.

A Calmer Way to Begin Eye Surgery

Here is the part we did not expect to love so much.

Many patients arrive for LASIK or lens surgery carrying tension, often in the neck and shoulders, even when they feel mentally prepared. We began offering a brief CiraPro session before procedures, and the response has been wonderful. Patients tell us they walk into the procedure room feeling looser, calmer, and more at ease.

To be clear, the session simply helps relax tense muscles and feels warm and soothing. Your surgical experience remains in the hands of the same surgeons, technology, and protocols we have always used. But we believe how you feel on the way into surgery matters, and this is one more way we can care for the whole person, not just the eyes.

Who Is a Good Candidate?

Most healthy adults can enjoy CiraPro sessions, whether as a standalone recovery treatment or before a scheduled procedure. During a brief consultation, our team will review your health history and answer your questions. As with any laser device, protective eyewear is worn during every session.
